Cognitive dissonance

Cognitive dissonance is when two ideas or subjects are colliding in your mind and creates tension. Therefore you want to reduce this tension by persuading yourself on one idea over the other, so as to make yourself feel better about the choice you made. The example of quitting smoking as a cognitive dissonance is very useful being that my dad used to be a smoker I can defiantly relate to that because it was hard for him to quit something that made him feel good even if you know its bad. It causea tension because you want both things and they collide with one another.
